Zion Square Hotel - Lonely Planet review
Michael Kohn
Lonely Planet author

Run by a chatterbox granny, this mediocre hotel finds itself in this price category because of its perfect New City location. Right above the Rimon restaurant off Ben Yehuda St, it's just about as central as you can get. Inside, the double rooms are simply furnished, with TV, radio, phone and basic bathroom.
While everything functions reasonably well, it's a visibly neglected establishment in dire need of renovation, something unlikely to occur under the current management. One nice feature is the open lounge and small bar next to the reception; from here you get good views of the passers-by in the pedestrian mall below. The other obvious benefit of this hotel is that you can get drunk at one of the downtown bars and easily stagger back to your room without having to trek halfway across the city.
At the end of Ben Yehuda Street in the downtown Jerusalem you can find Zion Square (Hebrew, Kikar Tziyon).

Jerusalem's Zion Square by the Hostel

Zion Square Jerusalem

Jerusalem nervous system centers around Zion Square Jerusalem (Kikar Tzion). Abutted by Jaffa Road, downtown Jerusalem's main artery, and at the root of both the Ben Yehuda and Yoel Salomon pedestrian malls, Zion Square is packed with a broad cross-section of Jerusalem life: bearded mystics, heavily armed police, declaiming self-styled holy men, jubilant Hassidim, sullen teenagers, bright-eyed tour groups and street musicians.
