This is the list of Mayors of Jerusalem in chronological order.
The City Council was established in 1863 during the rule of the Ottoman Empiree in Jerusalem. During the years 1948-1967 two municipalities operated in the city: the Israeli municipality of Jerusalem provided services to the western neighborhoods of the city and the Jordanian municipality of Amanat Al-Quds to its eastern parts.

Nir Barkat - (2008 Present) mayor of Jerusalem ran again and won the election for mayor of Jerusalem on November 11, 2008 gaining 52% of the votes, defeating his main rival Meir Porush, who won 43% of the votes. Barkat is described as a secular politician, contrasting with both Lupoliansky and Porush, who are described as ultra-orthodox.
