The Machane Yehuda Market began running in 1928 and back then it was described to be an older more run-down market. But many positive changes occurred over the last ten or so years. It is now a cleaner, more attractive and lovely market to shop at. It is also surprising to me that it is a nice place for friends and family to hang out together. The Yehuda Market, widely known as “the Shuk”, is extremely popular and appealing to different cultures and tourists. For example, even though the Jews shop there, the Arabs do as well. Poor people and Rich people purchase items there, while all of people’s differences are set aside while enjoying a charming experience at market. “The Shuk” is also a hot-stop for Tourists such as Americans. The Market is a great place for Israel because tourists, who come to explore the city, get to experience the wonderful, friendly and fun atmosphere of this beautiful marketplace. The traditions of this unique market demonstrate that the Israeli culture is very pleasurable and entertaining.

MACHANEH YEHUDA
The name conjures up the image of Jerusalem's massive and colorful outdoor food market, but it is actually the name of one of the city's oldest Jewish neighborhoods, dating back to 1888. Only a couple of blocks from the modern downtown area of King George, Jaffa and Ben Yehuda, this neighborhood is also home to the famous Yeshiva Eitz Chaim and the Zoharei Chama compound of synagogues where non-stop prayer services are available throughout almost the entire day for market stallkeepers, shoppers, and travelers.
Machaneh Yehudah
Jerusalem - The Machaneh Yehudah Market; Machaneh Yehudah is the open air market of Jerusalem. Filled with fresh produce, bake shops, spice shops, and all kinds of other venders and hawkers, it's especially exciting (and crowded) the few busy hours just before Shabbat begins. Guards are stationed at the entrances, located on Aggripas Street and Jaffa Road. Terrorists have targeted the shuk on more than one occasion. While some choose to do their major shopping at supermarkets and malls around the capital, strolling in the shuk, grabbing some fresh nuts or dried fruit, remains a treat.
